As the principal of the firm, Kent has been in the industry since 1974 when he began working summers during college. Upon graduation from college in 1976, he began full-time work in the business for C. M. Fleetwood where he worked throughout Oklahoma, Texas, Montana, Kentucky and Arkansas examining titles, buying leases, doing title curative and managing land crews of up to 30 people. Kent left C.M. Fleetwood in 1978 and went to work for Texas Pacific Oil Company as a staff landman, handling an area that stretched from North Texas to Kentucky. He administered the acquisition of titles, leases, and wells, negotiated with other companies, prepared wells for drilling, and handled division orders within his areas of responsibility. Texas Pacific was acquired by Sun Oil Company in 1980, and he left to join Boswell Energy Corporation as Land Manager. Boswell did not have a land department, so he initiated one, established a lease records and management system and handled an annual budget of approximately 6 million dollars. During the six years he was at Boswell, the company put together prospects in Oklahoma, Texas, Kansas, Colorado, Utah, and Nevada. Kent supervised 3 lease records/division order personnel and approximately 40 landmen in the office and the field. Boswell was very active in drilling within the Oklahoma City/Edmond city limits, and Kent worked closely with the staffs of these two cities to develop workable oil and gas ordinances as well as securing over 75 drilling permits. In 1986 he left Boswell Energy to originate R.K. Pinson & Associates, LLC with the goal of providing professional land services to client companies. Despite the many downturns in the business, RKP has survived and prospered by providing timely and efficient land services while maintaining a high standard of ethics and professionalism. RKP has worked with many different clients from Oklahoma City, Denver, Dallas-Fort Worth, Houston, Midland, Tulsa, Calgary and other cities and continues to serve several different clients across the country.
Kent is a Certified Professional Landman (#4802) under the authority of the American Association of Petroleum Landmen and is also a member of the Oklahoma City, Tulsa, Denver and Houston Associations of Petroleum Landmen. He is active in his church as well as a past member and past President of the Deer Creek Public School’s Board of Education.
